About Us
Our MissionEstablished in 2004, Kidz Horizon Appeal is a charitable organisation that attends specifically to the medical needs of the most vulnerable in society – the needy children with chronic illnesses
Since it started, the Appeal has adopted the KKH Health Fund (KKHHF) and almost a million is raised annually to help children with chronic illnesses, including cancer.
Into its 18th successful year, the Appeal has been able to raise over $14 million to help more than 1400 needy patients alleviate the financial burden for their families and allowed them to concentrate on helping their loved ones get better.
The appeal has raised an average of $1 million a year and has successfully supported the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Therapy Programme to make the hospital experience less stressful for sick children.
The Kidz Horizon Appeal is made up of like-minded friends from various industries who have come together to volunteer their time and resources to help the less fortunate children who are ill, by raising funds and volunteering towards the KKH Health Fund.
The Kidz Horizon Appeal was being conferred the President’s Social Service Award – Informal Group in October 2009 for relieving needy patients of their worries over medical expenses. Click here to view

Committee Members
Dr Caroline Low-Heah
Founder
As founding Chairperson of Kidz Horizon Appeal, Dr Caroline Low-Heah played a pivotal role in gathering a group of friends who saw their success in businesses or professions as opportunities to do even more for others who are less fortunate.
She is married to Dr Heah Sieu Min, a surgeon in private practice and has two children. She is also the clinical director of Drs Jiten and Caroline Medical Centre. She sits on the board of KKH Health Endowment Fund since 2007 as well.

Mr Douglas Benjamin
Co-founder
Mr. Douglas Benjamin is the Group Chief Operating Officer of F J Benjamin Group, and has been with F J Benjamin for 23 years. He is married to Odile Benjamin and has four children.
He sits on the board of KKH Health Endowment Fund since 2005 as well.

Homemaker and a Trustee of Estate of H Somapah. Married to businessman Mr Lawrence Basapa and has a daughter. She fills her days with charity works and exciting travels.

The Kidz Horizon Appeal will be organising its 17th fundraising campaign where the funds raised support the most vulnerable in our society – needy children who have been struck by illness and in need of financial support and aid to help them on their journey to recovery.
With Studio 54 as the theme for this year’s gala dinner, the organising committee aims to bring back the spirit of the legendary disco nightclub, a phenomenon of New York nightlife and the icon which celebrated the golden era of the 70s and 80s music.

Our valued partner since 2011, Swiss luxury watch and jewellery house Chopard have generously pledged to donate 10% of their proceeds from their annual private charity sale for its members to benefit the Kidz Horizon Appeal.

Miele is a German manufacturer of premium and innovative domestic appliances and commercial equipment. They pledged and donated the proceeds from a meaningful cookbook – Heritage Feasts to Kidz Horizon Appeal in aid of KKH Health Endowment Fund. The cookbook, comprising 59 heritage recipes shared by 30 prominent personalities, was commissioned in celebration of Miele’s 111th anniversary.

NUYOU organised a fundraiser event for Kidz Horizon Appeal entitled ‘Bloom in Chic’. RISIS was the main supporting sponsor and created two exclusive flora designs (a Ring and a pendant) conceived by NUYOU’s Editor-in-Chief, Grace Lee. In addition, NUYOU also engaged three local designers to design fashion statements (dress, silk scarf and applique top) to complement the RISIS Orchid pieces. All the commissioned designs were produced in limited quantity and proceeds from the sale of these designs were donated to Kidz Horizon Appeal in aid of KKH Health Endowment Fund.

In commemoration of Swissotel Hotels & Resorts’ 30th Anniversary, Swissotel The Stamford Singapore organised a fundraising campaign “A Christmas of Hope” in partnership with Kidz Horizon Appeal. Donors to the meaningful charity project were invited to “A Christmas of Hope” Light-Up Ceremony and a Gala Dinner sponsored by Swissotel The Stamford.

Because every woman and child deserves good health
The KKH Health Fund (KKHHF) supports needy women and children afflicted with cancer and other chronic conditions. Yearly, KKHHF disbursed close to $2 million and helped more than 450 less fortunate women and children with their medical bills.
About the KKH Health Fund – Part of SingHealth Fund
Low-income women with serious illnesses such as cancer, high-risk pregnancies and gynaecological conditions are not usually financially equipped to bear the costs of medical treatment. Your donation provides essential support to needy paediatric patients, as well as low-income women with serious illnesses.
Every year KKHHF sees an increase in the number of patients seeking assistance. These patients are treated with the best possible medical expertise and care at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Thanks to the generous donors throughout the years, these patients have been able to turn to KKHHF for help.

The KKH Health Fund (KKHHF) is part of the SingHealth Fund (SHF) – which was incorporated on 2 September 2016 as a Company Limited by Guarantee to operate charity funds for the SingHealth cluster. All donations to the KKHHF are ring-fenced under the SHF for KKHHF purposes and will be used in accordance with the donors’ intent for women’s and children’s causes. As an Institution of Public Character (IPC), SHF is committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance and abides by the Code of Governance for Charities and IPCs. Donations to the KKHHF through SHF are tax deductible.

Our Beneficiaries
One of the patients helped through KKHHF was Bryan*, he was born a colloidon baby and requires long-term dermatology follow-up and skin care. Bryan’s family faces financial constraints as his father works as a barber with no CPF contribution.
Due to his skin condition, Bryan also faces discrimination, and this has caused distress to his mother. However, his parents remain committed to his medical care. KKHHF helps to fund the medication Bryan requires for his skin condition.
With the support they received from KKHHF and financial burden relieved, his parents can now devote more time and attention to Bryan and his siblings.

Serena* is one of the many patients who have been helped by KKHHF. Serena is the only child in her family, and was born completely normal. But a sudden episode of Asteriovenous Malformation Rupture caused her to become permanently bedridden and machine-dependent for life. As the sole breadwinner of the family, Serena’s mother has had to be resilient, working part-time in order to provide for the family’s financial needs.
Overwhelmed at first with the challenges of handling everything, Serena’s mother is now coping much better as funding from KKHHF has helped with the purchase of Serena’s homecare equipment, special diet, consumables, ambulance transport and other needs. This has allowed Serena’s mother to focus on providing the best care for Serena. Further assistance in the form of occasional home visits by homecare nurses from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) has brought greater relief.
